One of my newest obsessions is HGTV, and they’re always talking about “decluttering.” I realized that Escapade offers two a great opportunities for this: Continue reading “Escapade & Decluttering”
Some changes at Escapade this year…
We know that Escapade is getting old (the convention, not our lovely attendees!), but we want to say flexible. So we’re mixing a few things up this year. See how you like the changes, and then let us know what you think at the Escapade Review, or on your comment form. Here are some things that won’t be business as usual: Continue reading “Some changes at Escapade this year…”
Hotel Details
It’s almost time for the convention. Can you believe it? Here are a few last-minute details about the hotel that you may want to know.
- Remember that parking is FREE for Escapade members if you park in the city structure next to the hotel. If you park in the hotel lot, they’ll charge you the daily rate. You need to bring your parking ticket to the front desk, and they’ll validate it each day.
- We have also negotiated FREE wireless Internet for our members. When you check into the hotel, they’ll give you a code to to access the ‘net.
- Sadly, the hotel still doesn’t have a hot tub (we do ask every year). But the swimming pool is heated to 80 degrees (which is a lot warmer than the ocean). The weather doesn’t look promising at this time, but we live in hope.
- The hotel bar has happy hour weeknights from 4-7 pm. Well drinks & house wine are $4, awesome appetizers are $5.
- The hotel restaurant has a great 3-course dinner special for $19, available 4:30-7 PM daily.

Need moderator: The Reccing Crew & co-mod: OTW/A03 Wish list conversation
Against our standard policy, we scheduled “The Reccing Crew” because we loved the description, and it was very popular on the panel ballot. But we need someone to lead it. Are you the one(s)? Let us know TODAY!
Also, we are hoping someone who’s currently involved in OTW/AO3 will step up to co-mod this panel with Sandy. Any takers?

Orphan Zine Forms Loaded
Correcting a continuing problem, you can now download orphan zine forms in MS Word and PDF from this page.
The Panel Cut
Below is the list of panels that will probably (unless we change our minds, or lose some panelists) be on the Escapade final schedule. You may notice that some have changed from their original description here. To try and spice things up (and get more panels on the schedule) we have combined several that we thought were either duplicates, or that would make for good controversy. If you volunteered to lead a panel, you should have received an email by now, with instructions. Please follow them. 🙂
Escapade Website is Open
The Escapade website (www.escapadecon.net) is now open, and chock full of good stuff like:
– Convention dates: February 25-27, 2011
– Online convention registration available now
– Online hotel reservations available now
– Registration raffle (Prizes! Oh my!)
What, a raffle, you say? Yes, we want *everyone* to fill out our new improved registration form so that we have all your current contact and fandom information, the better to serve you. What’s in it for you? Fabulous prizes tailored as closely as possible to the fandoms you indicate you’re passionate about (we’ve added a questionnaire to the reg form), and the opportunity to choose a badge name that you¹d like others on the website to see. We’ll choose a small number of winners (more than 2, less than 10) from those who fill out the reg form by midnight next Friday. You can’t win if you don’t reg!
Already registered at the convention? Not to worry. We want you to fill out the reg form, too. Just select Partial Payment, and enter 0 for amount paid. When we get your reg form, we’ll send you a separate payment confirmation email. Note: payment confirmations are NOT automated, they may lag a day or two.
Public list of badge names! Feedback from the 2010 Escapade Review panel suggested that the list of who’s coming to Escapade is the best tool fans have to entice their friends to come. So we’re adding a link to this list on the homepage, without password protection. We figure in this day and age, if you don’t want your name on the ‘net, you’ve already gone underground. If we’re wrong, that¹s another great reason to enter the raffle by filling out a new reg form; you¹ll get a chance to update your badge name to whatever you use online.
We’re looking forward to Escapade’s 21st birthday!

Escapade 2011 Dates and Details
Many thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to the Escapade dates and venue survey; it has resulted in us selecting February 25-27, 2011 to satisfy the desires of the most attendees. Some feedback guided us to look at other venues, which we did, but none meet our needs; those that come closest don’t offer anywhere near the prices or accommodations that the Crowne Plaza does, so at least for Escapade’s 21st, we will continue at the Crowne Plaza.
We are finalizing the website updates this week, and expect to open it to users (and online registration) this Friday, July 9. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s available.
For our U.S. members and friends (and others who celebrate it), have a great holiday,
The Escapade Team
