Some changes at Escapade this year…

We know that Escapade is getting old (the convention, not our lovely attendees!), but we want to say flexible. So we’re mixing a few things up this year. See how you like the changes, and then let us know what you think at the Escapade Review, or on your comment form. Here are some things that won’t be business as usual:

  • Early registration on Thursday evening (7:30-9:00) will take place in the lobby area right in front of our convention space, instead of up in the con suite. We’re hoping that it will spill over into the bar and the outdoor patio overlooking the beach, but that’s up to you. You’ll still want to stop in to the consuite on Friday morning to label your cup, enter your raffle tickets, and check out the view.
  • On Friday, we’ll be airing an Escapade vidshow retrospective, assembled by Kandy Fong in response to repeated requests. This show covers the early (VCR) years of 1992-2001. We can’t even remember what was shown in 1991. The retrospective will be a looser format show, including a cash bar and a drinking game. It will flow seamlessly (we hope) into the Escapade Party, which will include an array of light appetizers, music, and more.
  • Instead of a computer setup in the con suite, we’re moving it down to Santa Rosa, where the swap meet is kept. We’re hoping that this will give attendees a chance to jump on to their journal service of choice and share Escapade as it’s happening with those who couldn’t make it.
  • Also in Santa Rosa, you’ll find a small display in memory of Ming Wathne. Please stop in to check it out. And if you have any memories of Ming you’d like to share, please write them down. They’re a great comfort to her husband. We’ll also have a collection jar for anyone who’d like to make a contribution to the University of Iowa in support of her Fanzine Archives collection.
  • Finally, we’re introducing a hashtag (#escapadecon) for those who choose to tweet. (And yes, we do know what that is. Barely.)

We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone!

–Jennifer (for the whole Escapade team)
