Escapade Vidshow Submission Instructions

Each individual vidder may submit up to three vids on which she has participated, whether solo or as part of a group. Vids from attending vidders take precedence over non-attending vidders.

All vids must be received by January 16, 2012 11:59pm EST so that we can prepare the DVD for the show. For this reason, submissions cannot be accepted at the convention.

Submission Format

Vid submissions should be submitted electronically if at all possible. If you have problems uploading, you may also send a CD or DVD data disk containing the files for direct mastering. We strongly prefer to receive DVD-compliant elementary video and audio streams, with the video encoded at 5500-6500 kpbs bitrate.

Any other file format will require conversion, and there is no guarantee you will be happy with the results. Video-editing software often has an option to output DVD-compliant streams, or you can use a stand alone MPEG-2 encoder, many of which are free or very inexpensive. If your vid cannot be readily converted, then it will be recorded to DVD via an analog line.

Please read all the instructions below carefully!

Electronic Submission:

Your vid should be submitted as two separate files: A video file encoded in MPEG-2, at 720×480 full-screen resolution, NTSC, using a 5500-6500 kpbs bitrate, and saved with an “m2v” suffix, and an audio file encoded at 48kz in WAV or AIFF format.

Note: If you are lost after reading that paragraph, the VividCon website has a very helpful page which explains the mpeg2 file format, and offers tools for creating them.

If you are still unclear as to how to create an MPEG-2 and an accompanying WAV or AIFF file, we can also accept an AVI or MOV file.
Please make sure the vid file you upload is as high-resolution and high-quality as possible. Ideally:

  • 720×480
  • 29.97 fps
  • Uncompressed audio
  • A high-quality codec such as DV, h.264, or other

Note: Change from previous years – Do not include black space before or after your vid. Trim the vid as close the beginning and end as possible.

Use the following naming convention (No spaces, punctuation or special characters):

vidpriority_yourname_songtitle.{wav,m2v}

Example:

The files for the first-priority vid submitted by vidder Super-Amazing Vidder!! to the song I’m A Little Teapot would be named:

1_superamazingvidder_imalittleteapot.m2v
1_superamazingvidder_imalittleteapot.wav
