Hot new fandoms? Hot OLD fandoms?

SO. The spouse started asking about what kinds of covers he’s going to be producing for us this year. It occurred to us that as usual we are so not on the cutting edge of what’s new and what’s hot. We are in fact so far from the cutting edge that we can’t even see it from here.

Megan and I have gotten hot for Burn Notice in a sweet, “Bruce Campbell is adorable” kind of way–she even ordered the novel from Amazon, lol. The husband suggested a “Chuck” cover but that’s mostly because he loves the show. Also BSG, but really, where’s the slash there damn it? Then someone suggested Obama covers, and we still haven’t decided if that’s just too… too.

What we really need to know is what people are into today. Let us know, please. Reply, email us, whatever you like; it’s the beginning of ramp-up for us and we’re really getting excited. What are you watching? Do you adore it like the best thing ever, or is it just getting you by until the right show comes along

Escapade Registration-sign up now!

We know that many, many of us are caught up in the same financial crisis that has hit the States and pretty much every other country in the world. We hope it will help that we are continuing to push off the deadline at which reg fees jump. We encourage you to give your friends registrations to Escapade while the getting’s good. A contribution via paypal on a registration to Escapade is a great Christmas gift, you know! 😉

We’re deeply engaged in planning, and we want to know what fandoms are hot. To wit, the next post….

Registration lower rate held over! (until 1/15/09)

Happy Holiday season, everyone! Darn, it’s great to be past this elongated presidential election season and into something potentially less stressful. It’s especially great for us to be thinking about Escapade with growing excitement: friends, food, men f— okay, alliteration is over-rated. But still, friends and television, slash fic and the library, parties, consuite… but mostly, friends. For us Escapade has become a place where we touch base with people we’ve known for years who are spread far too widely across this planet, so it has become a really special weekend. We hope it’s the same for you.

The presidential election season was long, and it sucked our attention up like a new fandom might. So we figured it might have done the same for others, and that now was a good time to focus on people getting their registrations in. We decided to extend the Registration Fee discount (reg fees were due to go up to the high rate of $125 after October 10, but we are holding them at $110 until January 15.)

Consider the following:

  • A good slash con where we see our friends, walk along the beach, enjoy good food, and share good slash, is possibly the best holiday gift you can give to yourself and your friends.
  • Now is a good time to schedule your vacation and make your plans for March 2009.
  • Airfares are incredibly good right now (I’ll post separately with some sample rates and transportation ideas for in-state attendees).
  • If you’re coming in from wintery climes, you have the Southern California sun, ocean, the picturesque city of Ventura within easy walking distance, and views of surfers to look forward to. (If you’re coming in from anything else, well… you have the same stuff to look forward to. *g*

If you have questions, email charlottechill@escapadecon.net, jennifer@escapadecon.net, or if you actually want an answer really quickly (::sigh::), charlottechill@yahoo.com

ETA: We have finally solved the lost password/username issue in the database. It will work if you can remember any two of the following items you gave us when you signed up: username, private email, phone number. Click the Sign Up/Sign in for Escapade 2009 link at the right side of the page, and select the Guest account. If you still can’t get logged in, send an email to jennifer@escapadecon.net, and she’ll help you out.

View from the Consuite

View from your con suite

The view from the Escapade 2008 Consuite. Please note the lovely-looking men walking on the sidewalk and swimming in the ocean; we’re thinking we should provide complimentary opera glasses next year.

We’ll be updating our con images as time goes by, so please feel free to send us the pretty pictures you took while at the con.

Last-minute chance for $100 rate

The convention rate goes up to $110 on May 1, so please register now

The good news is that the $110 rate remains in effect until October 1, so there should be no mad rush for a while. However, we’d *really* appreciate it if people would register early, as it helps us plan the event better from the get-go

Tell your friends, and get your registrations in as soon as is convenient. THANK YOU. We’re really looking forward to Escapade 2009

Next Year's Escapade Dates

Hello! Welcome to the planning for Escapade 19. (Yes, I’m planning already. <g>)

First let me introduce myself, for those of you who might not know me; I’m Charlotte Hill, and Jenn and I have produced Escapade since 1991 together, though in recent years I’ve been more in the background and Jenn has been in the foreground. This year we’re switching roles so Jenn can take a bit of a break, especially in pre-con planning and other pre-convention work.

Email me at charlotte@escapadecon.net with any questions, and if I don’t get back to you quickly you can try me at charlottechill@yahoo.com.

Okay, here’s the information I’m putting out, with a request for feedback.

The current, tentative date for Escapade 2009 is March 6-8, 2009. The good news is that this date doesn’t currently conflict with any other known slash cons (like RevelCon, or
the newer Washington State relaxacon). The bad news is that yes, that is the weekend of the Daylight Savings Time rollback.

Thoughts? Questions? Concerns?

Regards,
Charlotte C. Hill

It's Escapade 19!

With Escapade 18 behind us–and all grown up–we look forward to Escapade 19 spreading her wings and deciding to get a little wild. *g* Currently we’re in the process of selecting a weekend in March 2009 that conflicts with as few other regional and/or slash conventions as possible. Now is the time to let us know if you know of March, 2009 conventions, so we can do our best to schedule our con around them. Continue reading “It's Escapade 19!”
